National Honor Society

The purpose of the National Honor Society is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in high school students. To be considered eligible for applying to the North Warren Regional National Honor Society, a student needs to be a junior or senior with a weighted cumulative GPA of a 92.5 or higher, and a clean disciplinary record.

Class Rank, Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Class ranks are determined from the weighted cumulative GPAs of each student in the class. This is performed at the end of junior year and again after the third marking period of the senior year.

The student in the high school graduating class who has earned the highest weighted grade point average after the completion of the third marking period of senior year is determined to be the valedictorian; the student with the second highest weighted grade point average after the completion of the third marking period of senior year is determined to be the salutatorian. Any student so named shall have been enrolled in and taking a full-time course load (6 courses or 30 credit hours) in this school district their entire junior and senior years to be considered as valedictorian or salutatorian.

Grade point average shall be determined in accordance with Policy No. 5430 and shall, for the purpose of this recognition, be calculated at the completion of the third marking period of senior year. In the event the highest or next highest weighted grade point average has been earned by two or more students, both or all the students who have tied for first or second place shall be named co-valedictorian or co-salutatorian, as the case may be.
